If you are currently using Feedburner for your RSS feeds, you may have noticed – as we did – that your blog feed is totally dead. For many years, FeedBurner (acquired by Google in 2006) has been the principal provider of RSS and basic email subscription services to bloggers. migrated my clients from Feedburner some time ago because the service was getting a little sketchy. But I never really got around to updating my own blogs until yesterday, when I realized two of them were no longer working. I had a little over 10,000 subscribers and yesterday Feedburner was reporting that at a big fat 0. Feedburner’s support has gone *poof*. Important!

It’s particularly worrying in some areas, where companies of the size and scale of Google have effectively closed out the market, particularly in terms of RSS syndication with Feedburner and RSS reading with Google Reader. And now there’s some worrying signs about Feedburner, spotted by good friend Julius Solaris , who runs the Event Manager Blog. What’s happening to Feedburner? But also the @Feedburner Twitter account is being closed from today as well. The Feedburner API was already deprecated and is due to close in October, 2012. Buffer.

Once Mark Zuckerberg and the crew at Facebook, turned all of our individual profile pages into a newsfeed and put RSS behind the curtain, RSS disappeared out of our zeitgeist and into a line of code that social platforms use to pull information from one page of content to another. My fear is that when Google Reader goes and Feedburner could be next (which has been on a deathwatch ), that it diminishes the ways in which people can find, share and add to this type of content. content. content curation. feedburner.
