I had help to find the most beneficial keywords for my site and services and started to use these in my content. I began by adding my site to directories and putting links to my blog posts on social networking and bookmarking sites. The problem with keywords is you have to find a fine line between using them carefully and spamming.

That may be difficult to believe, but one solid, authoritative link from a website like BBC.co.uk (which you won’t achieve without a great deal of effort), is far more valuable than hundreds of low quality directory links. What’s better, an in-content link or a comment link? Link Building isn’t About PageRank.

By splitting your site into microsites you will have to remove a great deal of content. That is going to affect two key elements: Your long tail will be reduced, so will long tail traffic because there will be much less content on the (main) site compared to what used to be there.
