It needed to be very close to being equally popular on both Digg and Reddit, plus we needed the site owner to be willing to share their analytics data with us. Digg RedditThanks to our friends at Techi , we found a case study story. The Results. | SOSHABLE DECEMBER 20, 2011 4 Things We Expect to See from Digg in 2012 As the year comes to a close, Digg is far from dead and is poised for a rebound in 2012. Here’s what we expect (hope) to see from the social news giant: Nothing else will have any meaning if Digg doesn’t turn a profit by the middle of the year. If there’s one reason Digg brought in Matt Williams as CEO, it was his understanding of profitability and advertising development. Digg is heading in the right direction with 2 additions from 2011. Larger sites like Mashable don’t even have Digg buttons on their stories anymore. | | | | | | | SOSHABLE JULY 31, 2012 The New @Digg Could Be Worse. No it Couldn’t. I told Kevin Rose that he made a huge mistake with Digg v4 a couple of days after launch. As progressions go, I had expected to offer some meaningless after-the-fact advice to the new owners of Digg once they launched “V1″ Unfortunately, I have no advice to give. In short, Digg is officially dead. This was the one great asset that Digg still held. Forever. | SOSHABLE OCTOBER 10, 2012 The Dead Horse, Beaten: Digg is Gone and Never Coming Back Digg is unofficially dead. The tens of millions of pages of content curated by millions of users (and thousands of Digg “addicts” who spent countless hours every day for years finding the best on the web to present to the world through Digg) were wiped out and will never return. This will be the last post on this site about Digg. The attention is gone. | SOSHABLE MARCH 19, 2011 Three Things Digg Needs to Survive: Buzz, Buzz, and Buzz No, Digg is not dead. As I posted on FastCompany last month, Digg has until May to get the help (which we’ve offered on multiple occasions free of charge) they need to get back on track or they will miss their last window of opportunity to keep from going the way of Propeller, MySpace, and Yahoo Buzz. That helped to prompt the recent round of Digg-hate from the blogosphere. | SOSHABLE DECEMBER 16, 2012 Revisiting @Digg: Despite the Hate, the Quality has Improved Dramatically We’re four and a half months into the new version of Digg. The quality of the content is better. The new Digg team has managed to find its place in the news world quickly and by maintaining a steady stream of visitors, they’re positioned to make the move back up in the rankings. Digg Featured Social News” Many, including myself, were broadsided. | | | | | | | | | -
SOSHABLE | TUESDAY, MARCH 17, 2009 46% of the Digg Front Page is Controlled by 50 Websites of the Digg front page comes from 50 websites, according to data accumulated on di66.net. The algorithm that Digg.com uses to determine which user-submitted content reaches the front page is in a constant state of flux. With millions of users and over 10,000 submissions per day, the site has been a target for spammers and casual social media enthusiasts who want their content to hit and reap the benefits of tens of thousands of visitors in a short period of time. Once the limit is reached, they cannot Digg again until they go below the 24 hour threshold. Blast. MORE >> -
SOSHABLE | FRIDAY, AUGUST 10, 2012 Digg Traffic Falls out of Top 200 on Alexa, Heading Out of Top 400 Most believed that when Betaworks bought Digg last month and announced plans to revamp the site completely, that they were getting a recognized domain and a good amount of traffic to go with it. Despite Digg’s fall over the last 3 years, it has always hovered on Alexa’s traffic rank between 120 and 190 worldwide. Poor performance in the first 10 days of the Betaworks era at Digg have them ranked 203 on the Global Rank scale which accounts for the prior 3 months. In fact, there really is no true “community” at Digg anymore. MORE >> -
SOSHABLE | TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2011 Digg Newsroom Beta May Just Be Enough To Regain Relevance Over the last year since the launch of version 4, Digg has faced challenges in regaining its relevance in social media. It has seemed at times as if Digg may go the way of MySpace, Propeller, and Yahoo Buzz – social sites that were once big news but failed to adapt to a changing social sphere. Today, they launched Digg Newsrooms in limited beta. “There are so many social signals on the web and no easy way to separate the news that is most meaningful about a topic from the news that is most popular,” said Matt Williams, CEO of Digg. Traffic is down. MORE >> -
SOSHABLE | THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 2010 On Digg Today, Everything Went Better Than Expected The implosion of Digg is happening. Digg’s front page algorithm started resembling the old promotion algorithm. Familiar sources absent from the Digg front page for a week came back. Users are almost frolicking, submitting content to Digg rather than Reddit, Mixx, and anywhere else that would have them. Today, things almost seem normal for Digg. Tags: Digg It is an unstoppable conclusion to events that have been in motion since last week and will continue until the full implosion event similar to to the final shrinking of the universe. SOSHABLE | SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 2011 At Digg, There is Hope (and rightfully so) There seems to be a paradigm shift going on over at Digg that hearkens to the cries of users and publishers alike longing for the glory of old. It would appear that for the first time in over a year, Digg senior management is not only listening to the users, they’re acting upon what they’re hearing. Anyone who has followed knows that I’ve been extremely critical of Digg from a few weeks before they launched V4 until very recently. For the first time in over 7 months, I’m strongly encouraged about Digg’s future. Digg heard. MORE >> -
