Social Media Stats and Benchmarks: Fall 2019

As a result of ever-changing content algorithms, social media benchmarks are fickle. There’s a good chance what will follow in this post will be irrelevant as soon as it’s published but, what the heck, let’s look at a few social media stats and benchmarks we’ve seen over the past few months.

Facebook Calls to Action and Ad Placements

facebook post call to action

In our sample of data, we found that, on average, Facebook post engagement rates increase by 88% when the call-to-action in the copy is a question.

Facebook is also pushing the use of multiple ad placements (i.e. Facebook Newsfeed, Instagram Newsfeed, Instagram Stories, Audience Network, Marketplace, Messenger Ads, etc.). We took a look at efficiencies gained after leveraging 4+ placements for ads and discovered an average cost-per-objective decrease of 30% across a sample of clients.

Start Using Twitter Cards!

When you’re posting links on Twitter, make sure that you use the Twitter Card formatting! Across a sample of clients, we noticed that click-through rates were 2x higher when using Twitter Cards versus putting the link in tweet copy.

Don’t Forget About Instagram Hashtags

Are you using hashtags with your Instagram content? If not, you could be missing out. We noticed an 80% correlation between the volume of impressions from hashtags and the percentage of new users exposed to travel client Instagram posts.

Additionally, we noticed that an average of 35% of impressions came from non-fans for a CPG client. The general range was varied at 15% on the low-end to 80% on the high end!

Add those hashtags to get more exposure to new eyeballs!
