3 New Apps You Should Use for Social Content Creation

Photography and content apps are a dime a dozen in your App and Google Play Stores. But there are some apps that stand out from the crowd, and by default, make your content infinitely better and more engaging. We’re talking about apps that give you the freedom to explore your creativity, while remaining realistic and relatively easy to use at the same time.

With these apps, you can create and enhance content on the fly, with just the tap of a few buttons. So shall we get to it? You have a lot of content to create.

Pro Tip: The “randomizer” feature can get you some pretty cool designs when you’re in a design rut. Let it randomly guide you to graphics greatness.

 Facetune

Official Description: “Facetune helps you look your Hollywood best, even in photos taken on mobile phones.” – Roy Furchgott, The NY Times

Price: $3.99

Let’s face it: even the most stunning model doesn’t always look their best. Fortunately for them – and us! – there’s Facetune, which helps you make minor or major edits to any photo.

Although Facetune can be a little controversial because it includes the “reshape” function, which slims down bodies and consequently causes social media images to become an unreal version of the truth. It also includes some great features that, when used in moderation, can improve a photo significantly.

The Patch Tool (Photoshop’s famous Clone Stamp Tool) can clean up unwanted elements in a photo and make a composition cleaner and more aesthetically pleasing. Additionally, you can lighten and darken your photo in parts and effectively solve the biggest problem with regular filters: sometimes you don’t need it in EVERY part of the photo!

Pro Tip: For a more natural look, tap the screen repeatedly when making your edits, instead of holding and running your finger back and forth. The amount of pressure/time spent touching the screen affects the strength of the edit.

Boomerang from Instagram

Official Description: Boomerang from Instagram makes everyday moments fun and unexpected. Create captivating mini videos that loop back and forth, then share them with your friends.

Price: Free

If you’re at all involved in social media, you’ve recently seen your feed move back and forth in the most adorable manner over and over again. Boomerang by Instagram takes a series of photos and creates a video out of them – perfectly encapsulating a moment in time.

It’s more engaging than a photo and takes less time to absorb than a video. It’s the perfect way to showcase fun and fast increments of time. It’s owned by Instagram so its implementation is pretty seamless within the app. As far as Facebook and Twitter’s integrations go, they compromise the quality a bit and don’t loop forever, so they’re kind of missing the point.

Pro Tip: When shooting a Boomerang, make sure your subject is the moving variable, not the phone/camera.

Honorable Mention: Vsco Cam

Bruna 6

Official Description: Shoot and edit your images with our superior mobile presets and advanced camera controls. Publish images and journals, or curate others to your VSCO profile.

Price: Free with in-app purchases.

VSCO is the real MVP of photo editing. In my opinion, the photos come out crisp, sharp, and the most beautiful and dramatic when edited via VSCO.

(I pronounce it “VIS-CO-CAM,” you?)

Use it to create gorgeous edits with colors that pop – just make sure you don’t get bored with the original presets. If you want to add more edit collections, you will have to buy them.

Once you finish editing your images, you’re able to set up a “feed” within your camera roll, similar to Instagram’s. With that, you can see and plan what will look best and when, as you plan your content calendar.

Finally, you’re able to share and discover content to and from other VSCO users, making it a great photography community all on its own.
