While community is a hot buzz word these days, it’s still quite a ways before most businesses truly embrace the idea. Companies like Starbucks , Dell , even my previous employer Microsoft Advertising , all do community incredibly well and it has paid off for all of them many times over.

For the past few months I’ve had the luxury of watching a new local business not only use social networking and community building to build buzz for their business, but integrate it so much so, that it is an integral part of their day to day routine. While 5% growth may not seem horrendous, it’s a drastically big decline from April 2011 when Facebook witnessed 24% growth and far worse than April 2010 when the social network had an 89% growth rate. Does anyone have any sense that they could feasibly influence a feature or improvement for the platform?

It’s the only one of the three that truly has a community feel to it. I’m Yelper, so it just became natural to be hooked on that since my community is with Yelp. Today, I also learned of a new “trusted&# professional social network. There wasn’t any real value to me to try to do it more. have to check it out.

Tweet I have to admit, it took me awhile to actually spend any real time with the location based social networks. It’s the only one of the three that truly has a community feel to it. I didn’t see the value in it, not to mention, 90% of the time I would never really remember to pull out my phone to check in anywhere.
