  1. Would have to agree that I’m totally over flash mobs. I heard about the one that Justice Crew did in Martin Place this week and my only reaction was “meh”

I can imagine there will be plenty more “crazy”, “fun” and “spontaneous” promoted flashmobs to come. Yet more dancing in the streets.

What surprises me is that I’m yet to see any examples of promotional flash mobs that involve something other than dancing. There’s so much more that could be done. Why not have your hired troupe of students dress up in two colours and run around the city squirting each other with giant waterpistols or nerf guns? Or flash-stand-up-comedy?? anything other than more dancing!

  2. we ran our second flash mob choir at this year’s Festival of Voices in Hobart … maybe not strictly a flash mob because anyone and everyone was able to download their part and learn it then come along and join in. Obviously we didn’t know how many people would come along and there were no rehearsal beforehand, unless you count choirs or groups organising there own. The purpose was to have some form of mass community choir participation during the Festival … only downside is that the bonfire event is getting so big that the organisers will have to review it for next year and the sound system isn’t big enough to cope.

  8. Hello, my name is Joe Gantz and I make documentary films. Our most recent film, American Winter, was on HBO in March (www.americanwinterfilm.com), and I’m now making one on the environment called, The Race To Save The World.

Separate from this film, we are trying to turn New Years Eve into a night of demonstration/celebration for clean energy, because New Year’s Eve is a time when folks are looking to do something meaningful for the future, with New Years resolutions.

But the biggest advantage to using New Years Eve to celebrate for renewable energy, is that there are TV cameras filming in big cities, and a global audience watching television. Also the TV commentators, who have hours to fill with chatter, want to talk about something that their audience can get excited about. I think that TV commentators would talk about these people, in different cities, who are creatively celebrating for a global shift to clean energy. And if a global TV audience sees these celebrations on New Years Eve, they will think… wow, this protest is going on all over the world.

We are calling this global celebration, A New Dawn. And after people take to the streets and celebrate, then they will play and listen to music.

Climate change is a huge problem that is threatening the survival of life as we know it on this planet. C02 stays in the atmosphere for 10,000 years, and the levels of CO2 are higher now than at anytime in history. Here is a Video on the subject:

I have attached a link from a NY Times article about a study by the National Research Council. It’s an eye-opening piece, called Global Warming Carries Risk of Deep Changes. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/12/04/science/earth/panel-says-global-warming-risks-sudden-deep-changes.html?_r=0

Here is a little tidbit from the study… “Among the greatest risks in coming years, the panel said, is that climate change could greatly increase the extinction rate of plants and animals, essentially provoking the sixth mass extinction in the earth’s history. The panel said many of the world’s coral reefs, a vital source of fish that feed millions of people, already seemed fated to die within decades.” Just a little by-the-way.

We have started a URL FlashClimateMob.com and we want to get the information in the following tweet out to everyone, young and old, around the world: #FlashClimateMob Celebrate on New Year’s Eve for 100% Renewable Energy Now. Join us in every city center at 11pm w/signs, at 12:30 w/music

Can you help us get this information out to people around the world? I hope you are doing well.

    Best Regards,

    Joe
