A more thoughtful and educational experience than the quick jot on Facebook, a tweet or even a slightly longer response to news or commentary on Amplify. Blogging was about community, communication and storytelling. I’ve never been a daily blogger, but that doesn’t devalue blogging itself. It worked too.

Takeaways from the discussion were many, and largely about developing a professional brand, creating real networks of people who are interested in the same topics, staying in good standing in the community and supportive of others in their extended networks. Use social media to educate yourself on where you want to be, not just where you are.

To interact with your users and community and listen to what their needs and desires are. You pay attention very closely to what your community wants to do. Even if it’s the latest, hottest, coolest tool you’ve ever seen, if your community doesn’t want to adopt it, it might not be a good fit.
