Apple has been in the news for a new feature it has added for its users. It is none other than automatically transferring photos, videos or albums from iCloud Photos to Google Photos. Apple has introduced this service to allow its users to have a copy of their photos and videos on Google Cloud.

Initially, the service is available for the customers residing in Canada, Australia, the European Union, Iceland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Norway, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, and the United States can transfer iCloud Photos to Google Photos.

The feature does not allow you to immediately transfer the data to Google Photos, rather you have to raise a request first and then the data transfer will take place between 3-7 days after verifying the request is made by you only. Once verified, your data will be transferred to Google Photos. Transferring photos and videos from iCloud don’t remove the content that is already stored with Apple. It just allows you to send a copy of your photos and videos to other cloud services.

Can I Transfer All Kinds Of Data From iCloud Photos To Google Photos?

There are some restrictions while transferring data from iCloud Photos to Google Photos. By restrictions here we mean that the user cannot transfer Smart Albums, Live Photos, photo stream content, some metadata, and some RAW photos. While the file formats including .jpg, .png, .webp, .gif, some RAW files, .mpg, .mod, .mmv, .tod, .wmv, .asf, .avi, .divx, .mov, .m4v, .3gp, .3g2, .mp4, .m2t, .m2ts, .mts, and .mkv are compatible and allowed for transfer.

Things To Consider Before Requesting A Transfer

If you anytime with to transfer iCloud Photos to Google Photos, you need to ensure that:

• You are using iCloud Photos to store all your photos and videos with Apple.
• You have two-factor authentication enabled on your Apple ID.
• You have logged into a Google account on your device to use Google Photos.
• Your Google account has enough storage to accept the transfer.

Can I Add More Photos Or Videos To iCloud During Transfer?

Well, if you add more photos or videos to iCloud before the transfer begins, all you require is enough storage space on your Google Photos account to finish the transfer. If your storage runs out of space, all of your items from iCloud will not be transferred to Google Photos.

While, if you add images or videos to your iCloud account after the transfer has already begun, in that case, the images or videos are still uploading, then these changes will not be added in the transfer. The images or videos that were already set to transfer will be transferred and the rest won’t.

How To Raise A Request For iCloud Content Transfer?

As we have already mentioned, the transfer process takes between three to seven days, you first have to raise a transfer request using the following steps:

• Log in with your Apple ID at privacy.apple.com.
• Choose Request to transfer a copy of your data under Transfer a copy of your data.

• From the dropdown, select where you want to transfer i.e. the destination. In this case, it is Google Photos.

• Choose what to transfer from the section below, checkmark Photos, Videos, or both.

You’ll get a sign-in prompt. enter the Google account email you want to send the photos and videos to.

• Click on Next.
• Now, complete the two-step verification.

• Next, you’ll be asked to Grant Apple Data and Privacy permission. Click on Allow to proceed further.

• Then, Confirm your transfer by clicking on Confirm Transfer.

The process continues and you’ll receive an email notification for your transfer request and another email you’ll receive after the transfer has been completed.

Can I Cancel The Transfer Request?

Well, you can choose to cancel the transfer request before it is complete. If some photos and videos have already been transferred you can access them in your Google Photos. Rest assured, you can check the status of your request at privacy.apple.com/account.

• The photos and videos stored in iCloud are now available on Google Photos too. Only the photos and videos in their original and compatible formats are transferred, and can be easily opened and read. Sometimes, you might realize the photo you are looking for is not uploaded to Google Photos, the reason for this is – compatible formats including – .jpg, .png, .webp, .gif, some RAW files, .mpg, .mod, .mmv, .tod, .wmv, .asf, .avi, .divx, .mov, .m4v, .3gp, .3g2, .mp4, .m2t, .m2ts, .mts, and .mkv files.
• Duplicates appear as one photo after the transfer completes. Also, the most recent edit of a photo is transferred, not the original one.
• Photos are possibly transferred along with the albums. Videos are transferred separately.
• Once the transfer completes, the file name starts with ‘Copy Of.
• Remember, you are not allowed to transfer Smart Albums, Live Photos, photo stream content, some metadata, and some RAW photos.

Notes To Remember:

• The total Google Photos storage space depends on the amount of content transferred from iCloud.
• Per Album limit for photos is 20,000. More than 20,000 photos are transferred but not in the album.
