The only way to know if your page has new comments is to browse the feed for the page. Pages can’t comment or even +1 a conversation unless that person is following the page. Here’s a short list of just a few. Add them in the comments and give us some hope. Pages can’t +1 other pages or web sites.

Although Perez Hilton is listed as one of the top 5 users by SocialStatistics.com , he’s closely followed by the New York Public Library, Fox News, the Washington Post, and Jaguar USA. Maybe because social media is my business and I like geeks. A workaround for this is to tag people in the post, but it’s not a perfect solution.

As a result there is a substantial list of 3rd party applications for ADN already. Like my personal favorite Twitter app, Tweetbot, it allows you to create drafts for later publishing and to quote a message and add your own comments to it before sending.

The quick link or the witty comment shared on Twitter has the shelf life of maybe a couple of minutes before it’s buried in the Twitter stream. With Google+ you can toss off a quick comment on a link you’ve shared and find thoughtful commentary building on it for days, in a threaded format just like Facebook and popular forums.

The app developers are working on ways to filter and moderate and Periscope has an option to allow only people you follow to comment, which is a nice start.
