I don’t know about you but I’ve gotten more than a dozen invitations to Google+ communities in the last couple of days. In case you’re not aware of what that means, Google+ launched a new feature, Google+ Communities on Dec 6. Add to that the very important fact that anyone can create a Google+ Community.

There Is No Free Social Media For Business

Waay back in the 1990s I co-founded a startup on-line community for the restaurant industry. Blogs were in their infancy and we used bulletin boards and comment streams on posts to communicate with our user-base and we loved every second of it. Nobody saw how community could support a business model.

Getting real engagement on your Facebook page

Sometimes because they think they’ll put up a page and their fan base will flock to the site, dynamically post content on their own and discuss it with their peers, all without much effort from the community manager (if there is one). This just doesn’t happen unless you’ve got a vibrant community and are expanding it to Facebook.

Do you syndicate your blog?

You could lose your community. Even if you have listening tools set up that alert you to comments, that discussion takes place on the hosts’ web site, while your own post may sit with fewer comments. Hmm, well if your community is that easy to distract maybe you need to work on that a little more. Share the love.
