Death of Photography, Abandoned NOLA Six Flags and BAD Klout

Today is one of those days that is both awesome and shitty at the same time. On one hand baby Espo is going to get to see his cousins over the weekend, who should be here sometime round midnight, but on the other it is sad. The two wonderful interns that we had working with my team at Vistaprint are headed back to school and they’ll be sorely missed. Hopefully the week was a good one and even better things are lined up for you. Enjoy this week’s edition of Five for Friday and I’ll catch you next week.

Hiring for a Social Media Management Role? Start Here – this piece from Olivier Blanchard is very smart and something that folks should bookmark or share with others looking to start a social media program or hire a person to lead theirs or take it to another level.

Is Instagram Ruining Photography? – this blog from Geoff Livingston has got an interesting debate on whether or not Instagram is ruining photography. My take on this is no, but it is something that scares hardcore photographers at times because it is kinda like blogs way back when – something cool, but doesn’t replace traditional mediums.

If @Klout is Fixed, Why Are They Profiling an 11-Year Old Kid? – you can say a lot of things about Danny Brown, and I sure as hell have, but what you can’t say is that homeboy isn’t one to keep on burrs in his saddle. Now don’t take that as a bad thing, he’s standing up to kids who are being socially profiled because they are connected to parents on a network with social scoring…  Now back to the topic – Enter Klout who a while back had a dustup with this Scottish-Canadian hybrid on creating profiles for CHILDREN under 18 years old. Long story short, they said it was fixed and well, whoopsie, not really. I give them credit for responding in the comments, but it is as weak as a candy cigarette next to a Marlboro Red.

Photos Of The Abandoned Six Flags New Orleans – this is an awesome photo blog that mixes Armageddon with awesome and some serious sadness, which means click the damn link.

It is fascinating to see the old blog vs. journalism debate rekindled in photography.  I agree with you, photogs need to take a chill pill. Instagram does not replace them.
