The quick link or the witty comment shared on Twitter has the shelf life of maybe a couple of minutes before it’s buried in the Twitter stream. With Google+ you can toss off a quick comment on a link you’ve shared and find thoughtful commentary building on it for days, in a threaded format just like Facebook and popular forums. Google+ is a great social network.

If you want to add a comment and the tweet you are posting is too long simply reply to the sender with your comment followed by a retweet of the original tweet. Is there something in their recent tweets you can retweet in turn or comment on? Or it can be spam and a vain attempt to draw attention to yourself. You get to decide. But what’s a retweet you say? Use Via or RT.

I prefer to allow only users I follow on Periscope to chat as this blocks of 99% of the trolls and negative comments. Please do respond to comments live while broadcasting. Remember only users watching on the app can comment or give hearts. What’s new. Choose wisely.

What if you made a comment on my photo about how beautiful it was? Photos and videos make us think, or laugh, encourage us to add a comment and share with our friends. Many Facebook page owners are disappointed with the results they are getting from their Facebook pages. Hooey. The only way to know if your page has new comments is to browse the feed for the page. Pages can’t comment or even +1 a conversation unless that person is following the page. Add them in the comments and give us some hope. All my clients are asking and it’s a tough question for many. For most small businesses I’m saying no, wait a bit. There are so many things business page can’t do yet. For example: A page can’t follow you until you follow it first or mention it in a post. Hangouts don’t work on a mobile device for pages. Likes, comments, shares and clicks are all ways to show affinity. For example a comment has more weight than a like. In fact, if an older post starts to get some new comments it can actually rise to the surface and appear again in people’s news-feeds. The number of likes, shares and comments a post receives from the world at large and from your friends in particular.

Even if you have listening tools set up that alert you to comments, that discussion takes place on the hosts’ web site, while your own post may sit with fewer comments. Comment on your posts when someone asks a question and set alerts so you can follow that conversation by email. Recently the topic of syndicating content came up in conversation. Share the love.

Well, some people posted comments on the Facebook page complaining about the ad and blogger Margot Magowan didn’t think it was funny. Chapstick admins deleted the comment. Really, their only mistake was trying to cover it up by deleting comments. Negative comments are an opportunity to learn from your users and to let them know you are listening. Citibank.

Within a community if you add your comment on an older discussion it doesn’t move to the top, so unless you are watching that discussion carefully you could completely miss new comments. I don’t know about you but I’ve gotten more than a dozen invitations to Google+ communities in the last couple of days. What’s not to love? Different Demographic.
