Commenting, even more than retweeting, signifies that there’s something significant about the message, and even generates conversation, which gives the message more life than just a retweet will. I recently came across a question in Linkedin about the etiquette of retweets. My own response is that a person should just send a direct message. | IMAGINE YOUR REALITY MARCH 14, 2011 Why you should “like” comments on your Facebook page Whenever I get a comment on one of my Facebook business page posts, I like it. I’ve realized that one of the ways I can improve interaction on my business page and improve the value of a like is to like the comments that people write in response to my posts. By liking their comments I am acknowledging their effort and telling them I want more interaction. In other words, liking a comment doesn’t just signify approval, but actually can be a call for action, and create a reciprocal exchange. What’s the value for a business? I came across a recent article on why Klout is dangerous and it reminded me of the posts I wrote in 2009 about Klout’s danger as a form of social narcissism. In that post, I explained that Klout allows people to post their social influence score on twitter, basically allowing them to brag about how much social influence they have. In some cases, it will be because of fame, but such fame is misleading. | IMAGINE YOUR REALITY MARCH 15, 2011 Social impressions and links More comments means more social interactions, which is what a business wants because it also increases the chance that people will do business with you. Whenever I see someone post a link to an article or a blog entry or something else, I wince when it looks like it’s automated. The reason I wince is because the social impression it creates or rather lack of a social impression. People want social engagement and this includes engagement as it pertains to your links. Social impressions are important when it comes to posting links. | IMAGINE YOUR REALITY SEPTEMBER 8, 2011 The Social Rules of Google Plus And as I spend time on it what I notice is that it’s more focused on sharing information with people commenting on that information than anything else. It also helps if you actively comment on other people’s news and give out some plus ones as well. The more time I spend on Google Plus, the more I see a divide among people using it. Some people really get into and love it. And others use it less and less, and wonder if there’s a real purpose to using it. They get frustrated with it. like Google plus. do get some responses on regular updates. | IMAGINE YOUR REALITY AUGUST 18, 2010 How to fit Relationships into social media policies Thanks for commenting and sharing this post. social context determines how contact is perceived Recent Comments Anonymous on Accountability in social media Tony Karrer on Accountability in social media Anonymous on Why social media etiquette is important for business Anonymous on Why social media etiquette is important for business Info on What makes you stand out? | | | | | | | | | -
IMAGINE YOUR REALITY | THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 2011 What engagement in social media really means he is commenting on other people’s news and responding to comments made on his/her news. I’ll admit that some days I am more active than others, but each day I try to leave comments on my networks and respond to people. The real measurement of engagement is partially found in website visits and clicks, but equally found in conversations joined, comments responded to, and also in the sentiments people express about your business or yourself. The word engagement is thrown around a lot in social media as a way of describing what people should do. MORE >> -
IMAGINE YOUR REALITY | MONDAY, JANUARY 17, 2011 Why a reply matters on social media I’ve also had this occur when I’ve made a comment, and I think it illustrates an example of bad social media behavior when someone doesn’t take the time to respond to a comment that someone made that references him/her. There are cases, where if you’re getting lots of comments, it may be hard to respond to all of them, but for the majority of people that’s less likely to occur. So when you do get the occasional comment or reply, it’s important to make a response in turn. MORE >> -
IMAGINE YOUR REALITY | THURSDAY, JANUARY 13, 2011 6 tips for bringing some personality to your Facebook business page Tip 2: When you get comments, respond to them. Another benefit as well is that the more comments you get, the more likely your original post and the comments will show up in the top news feed in your network. The majority of Facebook business pages tend to be a little dull, with the occasional like, but not much else changing the landscape of posts of the business trying to get people interested in what they do. The reason why so many business pages are so dull comes down to a lack of personality. Tip 1: Put together or promote events that are community oriented. MORE >> -
