I think that Google+ will have some interesting effects, I think collaboration may happen more natively on Google+ than on other social media sites, which may endear it to creative thinkers who also often happen to be early adopters. And so it goes. Should you follow back? Should you create a brand page?

Klout and Kred – Social Influence Comparison

I think its an improvement, based on how its score is calculated, its more consistent with social values of transparency and collaboration. And just as hiring someone on a Klout or Kred score is laziness, so is assuming that your only influencial fans are on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.
