Klout is a site that measures your influence on the web, using social media sites. Essentially, the more influential you are on social media websites, the higher your Klout score is. The score goes from 1 to 100, and I would say that it’s pretty easy to get a Klout score of 30 or higher. Let me explain.

The Harvard Business Review recently published a post entitled “ Return on Influence, the New ROI “ In it, the author suggested that marketers consider the use of “Return on Influence” as a metric for measuring social media activity. Return on Influence has nothing to do with business objectives.

Ford used to social to gain essential product feedback – before it was even on the market – and to dramatically increase awareness about the Fiesta, by using influencers to spread the word. “If you talk about the new product, who would buy the old one?” However, social media allowed people to self-select.

Lots of people will tell you ”Social Media Influencers” are the key to social media marketing but what does that really mean? Is influence based on number of connections? Klout , Peer Index or Kred score? Create a first draft list of influencers who are posting consistently relevant information.
