Note to self: invent something people love and then buy an island). Considering UberMedia was rumored to be in the mix to buy TweetDeck for $30 million just a few weeks ago, that’s very interesting news. Why release your API if you’re just going to buy out those services created using it and then shut them down?

The sail thingies you see are a privacy screen, but apparently they are also perfect squirrel trampolines 😉 I was never a “bird person” growing up. However, I developed a bird feeding habit several years ago thanks to my late husband (he loved animals; so much so, he was frequently called “St. Francis” as a child!).

Don’t buy influence, build it. So it’s important that you don’t treat influencer engagement like a buy-out. Identify the people who wield an influence over your audiences’ buying decisions. Using content discovery and scheduling tools like Feedly , or DrumUp could help simplify the process.

There is a banner ad for audible.com with a picture of Steve Jobs trying to get me to buy his book. sees a tweet about my book and buys a copy for her sister, who loves mysteries, and sends her a Kindle version. I see ads “not by facebook.” ” They are all over my Timeline. I will not!

Crowdsourcing gives customers a simple, and often enjoyable, buying experience while providing them with a final product they are proud of. Sure it’s great that you’re an expert in color theory but, in the end, they want a design their friends think is cool. Crowdsourcing forces us to refine our businesses.

And as this story is told over and over again, that people will use our services, buy our products, donate to our causes, etc. Once they do, we hope that they will find that connection so powerful, that they’ll tell a couple people, and those people will tell a couple people, and those people will … and so on. This assumes that while I was sipping my morning tea on my deck, Back Yard Squirrel hasn’t chucked an acorn or several my way to brain me into buying a new bird feeder he can get into.
