Who’s Looking at Your Product Page?

You could have the best product in the world but if no one is looking at it, what’s the point? This is a reality that you have to face if you want to make it as a business entrepreneur. Between brainstorming the product and actually creating it, it’s easy to forget that you actually need eyes on your product to sell it.

A lot of “marketing gurus” like to talk about the value of a press release, but is your new product really a hot news item? If you’re honest with yourself, the answer is most likely “no.” Not to worry! You can still drive traffic to your product with a small budget of time and money.

Optimize Your Page

So many businesses launch their websites without optimizing the content. Simple things, like placing keywords in title tags and content, have somehow gotten lost in the age of social sharing. Brainstorm a list of keywords (with some keyword phrases mixed in) that best describe your business and sprinkle them throughout your content.

Install Google’s Page Speed Optimizer add-on to your browser and run a test of your site’s loading speed. Use the data from those tests to optimize how fast your page loads in a user’s browser. Also run tests from each of the major browsers to be sure your site renders properly.  These small changes will help raise your site’s ranking, and serve content to your customers faster.

Social Sharing

Having a “Like us on Facebook” button works well to build social presence. Establish a brand page on Facebook and actually make posts to it. Instead of talking to your existing customers, think about what would make your business attractive to newcomers. Timely posts about industry news, or list posts that offer practical tips to consumers will always benefit your brand.

You can also take advantage of social search tools by “hashtagging” your content with a “#” symbol and some of your keywords. This will make your posts easy to index and locate when users are looking for new conversations to follow.

Build References

Just like an aspiring academic, you want to get cited as an expert in your field to make the biggest impact. You need to build high quality backlinks from reputable sources. This often takes time, but some SEO strategies can accelerate the pace of your link building. The important thing is to not forfeit quality for quantity.

Always check the sites that you are trying to build links from and ask yourself if real people use those sites. Is content unique and interesting? Is there a social presence? Things like frequency of postings and broken links are dead giveaways that the blog you are looking at is a fake.

The way to get around this is to build relationships. Reach out to bloggers online and start a conversation with them. If they have a “most popular” post, read it and think of something interesting to say about it. Pitch your ideas as though they are a conversation and you will have better success reaching out to bloggers for the first time.

Lower Bounce

If you do not use Google Analytics, you should install its tracking code on your Web pages immediately. The wealth of data it affords you is more than enough to find and fix trouble spots. The biggest offender is bounce rate. Lower your bounce rate and you will be well on your way toward monetizing your traffic. Bounce rate looks at when users leave your site, and you can track where and how it happened.

Perhaps your content is not addressing their search, or your site is not accessible. Review pages with a high bounce rate to look for ways to improve. Customer retention is the first step toward making a sale built on trust.
