I’ve written before about why Klout should not be a synonym for influence , and on influence in public relations and social media … so I’m sorry if I’m boring you. | DAVE FLEET DECEMBER 26, 2010 HOW TO: Read 26 Books A Year Tweet Late in 2009, Julien Smith’s fantastic approach to reading inspired me to set an ambitious target for this year: to read one book every two weeks throughout the year. even published my target list of books so people could hold me to account. In fact, I’m on my 28th book of 2010. 26 books per year… how? booksWhy you should try it. Fiction. | | | | | | | UNSPOKEN MAY 16, 2012 Clout vs. Klout – Or the Real Meaning of Social Influence I've done some reading lately which has brought together and focused my theory of marketing through online influencers. Awareness Networks published a white paper entitled “3 Keys to Influence: Understanding and Leveraging Influence.” ” They report several strong reasons why marketers should seek social media influence: 90% of purchases are subject to social influence. So, the theory goes, if we identify the main social influencers, we should be able to effect change or motivate action. Digg Digg. | TREY PENNINGTON FEBRUARY 11, 2011 4 Keys to Increasing Your Klout Score Klout measures the visible vestiges of influence. Getting people who already have Klout scores to retweet your tweets or in some other way mention you enables you to ride the draft of their influence. By now you’ve probably picked up on the underlying current—it looks like the Klout-kind of influence is not so much about creating a wave as catching a wave. The key to increasing your influence online. None of the suggestions mentioned above have anything to do with real influence. GEOFF LIVINGSTON | MONDAY, AUGUST 20, 2012 Social Scoring and Peer Influence Scoring systems encourage people to build wide networks to foster reach and create the perception of influence. The highest scoring “ influencers” like to think they deliver widespread impact with their followings. Every single book I’ve read by a blogger on influence claims this. In actuality, that influence lies closer to home. When real researchers parse influence we get a different story than the blogger myth propagated by social scoring. Peer pressure influences us more than a highly scoring influencer. MORE >> -
TREY PENNINGTON | FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 2011 You have more clout than the guy who has all the Klout there is Bloggers have had fun with the topic of Klout and influence and so have the mainstream, traditional media. Though there’ll probably never be a last word on influence, this will be my last post on Klout (just like Linchpin was officially Seth Godin’s last book). Influence is neither static nor absolute. It is dynamic and relative: Influence changes over time and is dependent upon a host of variables. Who you are, who you’re perceived to be, and who’s doing the perceiving and why, have an awful lot to do with influence. Influence MORE >> -

Colum McCann’s Let the Great World Spin : A National Book Award winner, this book takes us back to New York City of the World Trade Center towers in the 1970s. Poore sets the book in the American civilization, making for a tongue in cheek play on morality. The first book, at least. Writers read , right? Fiction. MORE >> -
SOCIAL MEDIA CITIZENS | THURSDAY, MARCH 10, 2011 Interview with Social Media Influencer: Trey Pennington G: How would you define a social media “ influencer” and how do you measure influence? T: Over 3,000 years ago King Solomon bemoaned the incessant publishing of books. He’d probably think the modern man has gone plumb insane writing unending volumes on topics such as influence. My own writing on the topic is merely an effort to highlight the absurdity of reducing such a complex, multifaceted concept as influence to a two digit or elementary ranking. G: Do you think targeting influencers is overrated or is it an important part of Social Media Strategy? MORE >> -
