There is no “best time to tweet”, no “ideal Facebook post” and no blog topic that will automatically drive thousands of page views. Plan on blogging at a minimum once a week.

I’ve been blogging for about 5 years now and as I look back over those years, I’m amazed at how much I have learned. The biggest change that I observed came when the traffic wasn’t coming and my blog wasn’t growing. I was frustrated. I had put a ton of time and energy into my blog, but it wasn’t going anywhere. My blog became about me.

To add insult to injury, your Google analytics show that you get about 25 visitors to your blog every day, and you’re pretty sure that you, your family, and the GoogleBot account for about half of those. It took me an hour of finding workarounds for Twitter and I document the process of switching to the Twitter desktop view (not the mobile view) of Twitter in this blog post. I can’t live without my tablet. First, I had an iPad and then eventually switched to an ASUS Transformer as my primary gadget. Facebook can be just as infuriating, too. Personally, I do leverage tools like Paper.li, but as an aggregation tool, not for the purpose of filler tweets. I do schedule some of my blog posts and tweets, especially when I know that I’ll be in meetings throughout the day, that way I don’t spam my feed with 10-15 links at the same time during the 30 minutes that I have to surf the web or stumble some favorite site. Now, Facebook is hijacking your timeline and inserting “Trending Articles” While I’m not positive about the source, it’s likely that Facebook monitors the articles/blog posts that your friends are clicking on and sharing and then presumes that you’ll want to see them too. Facebook does it again! Personally, I want Facebook to stay the heck out of my timeline.

With my WordPress blog , I use a plugin called Redirection. What this plugin does is allow me to create an easy 301 redirect from any page on my blog to any other page.
