Business books I’m reading this summer include the newly revised edition of Accidental Genius by Mark Levy. It’s an insightful guide to using freewriting to jumpstart idea generation – whether you want to solve a business problem or articulate a book concept. Highly recommended.
I read and reviewed Cognitive Surplus by Clay Shirky. And was prompted to dip back into Seth Godin‘s latest book, Linchpin, after he gave a live seminar in DC.
I’m also skimming the just released Marketing Lessons From the Grateful Dead by David Meerman Scott and Brian Halligan. A fun read.
For pleasure
To be honest, I’m drawn more to pleasure reading in the summer. I roared through Stieg Larsson‘s thriller trilogy featuring computer hacker Lisbeth Salander (links to her Wikipedia entry). The third one is a little slow in the beginning. Keep going. Addictive.
Now reading a summer favorite, a novel from Persephone Books, a UK publisher specializing in forgotten women writers of the 20th century. The books, mostly fiction, are beautifully written and entirely engrossing. The site is fun to browse. I recommend anything by Dorothy Whipple, a well-known and highly regarded writer in the 1930s and 40s.
