Offer additional services at a premium but don’t annoy the member – make it a nice-to-have, or a way of showing value, or a Badge of Honour (for ProAms professional amateurs). Peer to peer ads, contextually relevant ones, maybe. Normal banner ads etc?

I was told that the “mistake&# about the Foursquare-Facebook promotion was legitimate, since they were polling users on Facebook to find places where Foursquare badges can be given — yes, read that again. Seems odd to ask where to put FourSquare badges anyhow. I’m not convinced. Answers Yahoo!
