The Brightkite timeline is nicely laid out and emphasizes people (avatars and names) over location. Foursquare is available for iPhone and Android , and can also be managed via SMS. When you post updates to Brightkite you can post them to everyone (all Brightkite users, including fans) or just to your friends.
