For blog posts with just a few comments the additional load isn’t too bad, but when you get a lot like me, showing avatars next to comment dramatically slows the loading time of a page. For those with access to the root WHM/cPanel account of their server, I believe that you can compile eAccelerator or XCache into PHP via EasyApache.
