Also, the groups on Linkedin are not like your average Facebook group. Start a LinkedIn group and make yourself the authority on this topic within LinkedIn – if you don’t take advantage of this somebody else will. Groups are great for networking and learning new things. Establish Authority.

All the other sites I network in are usually done under another persona, but I am a very good friend to have and very supportive of my friends even though I don’t know anything about most of them beyond the avatar. (My My ‘offline’ friends think I’m absolutely nuts for all the digging and stumbling I do.)

Abusing group invites. And if they don’t accept, don’t send the group request more than once by asking them to join via email, wall post, or Facebook message. Add an avatar and a bio at the minimum. Grow your group by linking one-to-one. Many call this spam. There is no reason to make a personal request.
