Are Startups The Future Of Media?

Twist Image

Yes, players like Apple and Google nudge the landscape, but only a little (at this moment in time). This past week, iMedia posted a blog item titled, 9 startups that marketers will love. Sure, some of these startups were interesting. Sure, some of these startups will succeed. Sure, some of these startups will fail (in fact, if we look at the statistics, the majority of them will fail). On March 23rd, 2013, The Wall Street Journal reported that Apple acquired a company called WiFiSLAM for an estimated $20 million (not bad for a two year old company with just a handful of employees that includes some ex-Googlers). This is more than a defensive move for Apple. But it's not just a game for Apple and Google. apple. startup.

The Billion Dollar Branding Play

Twist Image

When Samsung was fined close to one billion dollars and forced to pay Apple damages after a patent infringement trial in August of 2012, there were some interesting discussions online about what this all meant.
