They're trying to compare themselves to Apple at that price point, and have specifically done so in their demonstrations and advertising. If you're going to compare yourself to Apple, your entire experience needs to work together fluidly, fast, and smoothly. Very slow, and it didn't take much to achieve that.

Interestingly, newspaper readership at the Globe is also down 12% as their readers go online. BTW, I’m not saying seeing a Facebook feed and watching an entire game broadcast on TV are equal impressions. That too is a migration – not a decline as a whole! Clearly they are not.

I scan 275 RSS feeds in Google Reader and I use dozens of bookmarklets and shortcuts to help me manage it all. Enter Gmail and the Google Toolbar. The latest version of the Google Toolbar has a send to Gmail function. The Toolbar then automatically feeds it into a new message. I revel in information.

You can see how many people are subscribing to your RSS feed and from which sources, and if you use the new Google Analytics integration, you can see how many clicks each individual post is getting from feed readers. Around two years ago I had over 350 feeds in there as I was a total information junkie.
