Twitter: Gnip’s Audience API Now Generally Available

Twitter has been beta-testing Gnip’s Audience API since last October, and the social network announced Tuesday that the application-programming interface is now available to all advertisers. Facebook Adds Continuous Facebook Live Video API

Josh Constine of TechCrunch reported on the new API, saying that previously, Facebook Live videos were limited to 90 minutes in order to save storage space, which is not an issue with the new continuous videos, since they will not be stored. Product management director Fidji Simo told Constine: We’ve already seen some interesting use cases–for example, it was used by explore.org to power nature cameras—and we’re looking forward to seeing what Live API developers come up with in the future. We expect developers and publishers to get creative with this new capability.

Continuous Facebook Live videos and audience restrictions on Facebook Live videos, which were added to the Facebook Live application-programming interface in May , will be added to the social network’s Graph API. Software engineer Steven Elia introduced Graph API v2.7, which will be released this fall, in a blog post , saying that in addition to the Facebook Live features, the updated API also includes improved page insights, more ad placement options and a new daily ad budget format. For example, if your daily budget is $10, you may be charged up to $12.50.

Facebook Exchange, or FBX, launched in September 2012 , but the social network has been steering clients and ad technology partners to other products, including Facebook Audience Network, and vice president of monetization product marketing Matthew Idema told Marty Swant of SocialTimes parent Adweek that the goal is to wrap up those migrations by Nov. 1.

What if the preferences for your favorite social network allowed you to pick one or more “blackout days” during which you could not log on? Could you get by for a full 24 hours, or more, with no access to Twitter, Facebook, FriendFeed or any of your other favorite social media tools? The API would be shut down, too.). and I feel no sense of loss. I’ve been wondering, what would happen if I just quit social networking altogether? Maybe quitting completely is too extreme, so that gave me the idea for the social network blackout day(s) feature.

There are a lot of complicated issues here, and if you’re not a developer you probably don’t care about those, so I’m not going to explain the differences between Rest API limiting and Feature-base limiting, you can learn all you want about that in Twitter’s docs.
