The below graphs and data from Google Analytics say the rest. Comparing the present to the past is more evident with data from Quantcast , a company that has measured my site for years. Here is Quantcast data of unique visitors from 2009 to present. The above subject says it all. This help you, Phil?

My primary concern was that, after seeing nearly a 90% variance between their numbers and those from Google Analytics on my own site, I couldn’t trust that their numbers for other sites would be correct. when comparing the traffic numbers for local analytics (google, omniture, etc) to the numbers on Compete.com.

Everyone knows that data from Nielsen, Compete, Quantcast, Alexa and their ilk is only semi-accurate unless the site chooses to report actual numbers, so we’ve mostly accepted the fact that website traffic is a dull topic not worth our curiosity or bile. If you have 10,000 followers, do 10,000 people see your tweet?

Niche research is a little like viewing your website analytics where it’s really pointless checking your stats if they don’t lead to you making any site changes. Basically it lets you see which websites use the same hosting company, have the same IP addresses and use the same Google Analytics and Google Adsense tracking codes.

I of course like seeing the traffic go up, but I’m more focused on building a community than seeing some nice spikes in my Google Analytics account.
