SMS other social networks are built on SMS revenues such as SMSFun. Twitter has probably done their dash with doing SMS deals by now. Advertising Hey let’s eavesdrop on conversations, then interrupt with a contextual ad based on that word. 20 million? The unpaying masses get ads, the paying few get tiered accounts.

Never has the advertiser or brand had so many options as they do now on Facebook to target demographic, interested parties, that you can now actually track whether they’ve been to your physical location! Twitter: API – an open API is so important. Instant Messenger – a lot of people like to have their messages sent instantaneously, and dislike waiting for the API to refresh. Brightkite: Email and SMS – mobile web is definitely the wave of the future. People don’t like to be disconnected.

advertising? Advertising versus Free/Premium subscriptions. LinkedIn, in October 2009 had over 50 million members (plus 385 staff) $75-100m – 1/4 from advertising. I personally think that any social network that relies on traditional advertising for revenue is nuts. And what is free stuff anyway – marketing?
