As part of this process, I would also suggest helping staff understand and develop the skills of personal learning , which I think many of us lose along our way through academia and the work world. What were talking about here is how do people gather and process new information and develop new skills and knowledge as a result.

After Google Reader closed, I started using Feedly but recently switched to Netvibes in favour of their iGoogle style RSS reader – either are solid RSS readers that will help you keep on top of things. . Start off by following the influencers on Twitter, Google Plus, Facebook and whatever other social networks they are active on.

Instead of keeping to this method, I’ve decided to register on a website I used for the first time over three years ago… Netvibes. Netvibes is a custom homepage that allows you to customise thousands of modules to have an area online that is completely how you want it. Why Build a Brand Base? It’s fantastic.

Some have suggested that the principles of PLEs can be presented in a software tool (see Plex , for example), while others suggest it to be more of a concept than a particular tool. As this examples of organizing PLEs indicates, each learner will create a different collage of tools reflecting their personal preferences and learning needs.

Since adopting this minimalist way of doing things, I write articles much faster, process email quicker, and seem to have far more hours in each day. I never miss anything with this kind of set-up — if there’s something in my inbox, then I need to process it. How does TeuxDeux compare with Netvibes To-do widget?

They’re just one example of me putting my ideas and my creativity into the finished result of this blog. My other activities – buying and building niche websites – simply takes up far too much of my time. The area of growth for me was mostly Google Reader and Netvibes.
