South by Southwest is often called spring break for nerds – a place filled with techies and marketers looking for the next big thing. So it may come as a surprise to you that my biggest takeaway from the conference was maturity. No, not the conference attendees, but rather the social media landscape.

With a quarter of the 2012-13 NFL season in the books, the contenders and pretenders are starting to show themselves. If our weekly Social Media NFL predictions were a franchise, well let’s say that they would be a pretender. After last weekend’s showing of 7-8, social media’s picks stand at 30-33, not awful, but still far from great.

I am not going to lie, but last weekend may have been one of the more interesting awful weeks of NFL football in the history of the league.
