When you tap into this power and combine Gmail with some other tools, it is perhaps the most essential site ever developed. I scan 275 RSS feeds in Google Reader and I use dozens of bookmarklets and shortcuts to help me manage it all. I was using Gmail as a repository of site logings, passwords etc. I revel in information.

One of my commenters last week asked about the difference between social bookmarking and social networking sites. There are sites that are definitely considered one or the other, but some sites offer both bookmarking and networking features. Most people think of Twitter as simply a social networking site. Initially I was only following about 10-20 people that I had already known from other sites but by tracking comments and digging through my friend’s followers, I built up a decent list of people to follow on Twitter. It’s available as a Javascript snippet, a bookmarklet or a WordPress plugin. Follow people and be followed.
