So the question is–are there things that today’s B2B marketers can learn from history, specifically, the tremendous success of Facebook and the rise, fall and possible resurrection of Myspace? From its founding, Myspace took off like a rocket ship while Facebook had a much slower ascension from launch. My answer is certainly–yes!

I’ll admit (a little secret of mine) that I initially befriended a few folks I admired on TV (specifically, 2006-2007′s Beauty and the Geek) but since I have no personal connection to the guys, I deleted the non-genuine contacts. And if it’s not worth it to you, there’s always that opportunity to disable that account.)

MySpace Is Where the Young People Hang Out. Everyone knows MySpace is the social network for kids, but in truth, in October, 2006, comScore reported More than Half (51%) of MySpace Visitors are Now Age 35 or Older, as the Site’s Demographic Composition Continues to Shift. That was three years ago!

One night in 2006, over Tiger beer and carrot cake at a hawker center , my designer friend Little Ong told me about Multiply. Another friend, Dinnertube , started posting videos on Youtube in 2006. I may have opened a MySpace account when it was still the talk of the digital town. I opened an account as soon as I got home.

Remember MySpace? I remember when Myspace was “talked up&# all the time in mainstream news, whether it was good or bad. Sure, the media shined more of a negative light on myspace, which accounts for most of the traffic, but the instant myspace hit the airwaves and everybody heard about it is when it hit its high point.
