As you might recall, a while back I talked about the Hotpads Search Engine when it was launched. Recently, HotPads.com , the housing search engine, introduced a new way for cost-conscious shoppers to plan their next vacation with an interactive, map-based Vacation Rental search. This is on top of another $160 MM they raised in 2006.

Google Places, Yahoo! The more reviews you have, the more likely your local listings will appear in the search engines. It can appear in the search engine listings for any search involving the name of your business plus “reviews.&# Local, and Bing all offer reviews of local businesses.

Why wouldn’t you try to increase the search engine visibility of your press materials? I’d originally put this together in 2006; I found it interesting that there wasn’t too much I needed to update. Check what news stories and press releases currently come up for your top candidates in Google News and Yahoo News.

No matter what innovations the search engine introduces, it will likely involve Google Places in some way. 1 most important thing for any local small business to do is to claim their listing in Google Places (and in Bing’s and Yahoo!’s This is why I think the No. ’s local directories as well).
