These large sites ( Google, Apple, Yahoo, Microsoft ) have complex back end programming that make the site run as expected as well as front end programming to control the incoming traffic and direct it to available servers, known as load balancing. What a wonderful conference! Large popular sites are typically the victim.

Paid Bloggers Still Get Google Downgrades

To its credit, Google also penalized its own Japan division who used the pay per post tactic in an attempt to compete against Yahoo. What a wonderful conference! Bloggers who had earned a decent or better Page Rank saw their status tank to zero once Google realized they were being being paid for certain posts by advertisers.

Instant messaging has stuck around through the ages as a free service but most of those services are supported by bigger businesses making money in other ways (MSN, AOL, Yahoo…) Maybe Google should/could buy out Twitter. :) And then again, sometimes businesses simply fail.
