Twitter Wants Users to Share Their #NewProfilePic

Twitter is encouraging users who updated their profile pictures to share those updates in an effort to boost visual content and engagement. The social network confirmed to Sarah Perez  of TechCrunch  that users who update their profile pictures are being prompted to tweet about it with the hashtag #NewProfilePic , adding that those tweets are not sent out automatically, and that users can edit them as they see fit. Twitter told Perez the feature is now available to all Android users and a “small percentage” of iOS users, with a full rollout on the latter platform “still weeks out.”.

Nielsen Social Content Ratings, Week of Jan. 9: Nearly 53 Million Interactions for Packers-Cowboys

The Green Bay Packers ’ last-second National Football League  playoff victory over the host Dallas Cowboys  dominated the Nielsen Social Content Ratings  for the week of Jan. 9. The Packers-Cowboys game drew 52.878 million interactions across Facebook and Twitter, nearly three times the 18.749 million generated by Clemson University’s win over the University of Alabama in the college football National Championship game. The four NFL divisional playoff games occupied four of the top five spots in the sports category, joined by the National Championship game.

Parse Reminds Developers About Jan. 30 Shutdown

Parse  co-founder Kevin Lacker  issued a reminder that the cloud application platform is shuttering Jan. Facebook announced last January  that it was pulling the plug on Parse—which it acquired in April 2013 —to focus more resources on “high-impact products and services in areas like analytics, monetization, discovery and authentication.”. Facebook Takes Fake News Fight to Germany

Facebook is extending its efforts to combat fake news  to Germany. The social network announced in December  that it was turning to third-party fact-checking organizations to help combat fake news and hoaxes, as well as making it easier for users to report fake news and flag questionable posts. Speculation that fake news on Facebook affected the recent U.S. presidential election  and a federal election due in Germany later this year may have led to this move by Facebook. Facebook Sets Up Shop in Paris’ Station F Startup Campus

The “first worldwide Startup Garage” at Station F  in Paris will devote several spaces to launch partner Facebook. Station F announced in a blog post  that Facebook will launch a program in April called Startup Garage From Facebook at Station F, which will be a six-month program designed for participation by 10 to 15 data start-ups, occupying an 80-zone area of the campus.
