Twitter Officially Begins Rolling Out Exceptions to 140-Character Limit

Sept. 19 is here, and so are the previously announced tweaks to Twitter’s 140-character limit.

Twitter announced Monday (via tweet, naturally):

Say more about what’s happening! Rolling out now: photos, videos, GIFs, polls, and Quote Tweets no longer count toward your 140 characters.

Bloomberg first reported the possibility of the move in May.

When Twitter reported its second-quarter-2016 earnings in July, its letter to shareholders said:

We’re continuing to give people more ways to express themselves in a tweet.
