Rethinking Google Plus

Over the past few weeks I have been doing a lot of thinking about Google+. Overall I think it it is time to stop calling it a social network and looking at it for what it really is – an evolution of the Google platform. In the video below, I share some more thoughts on why we should all give G+ another look and see if we can leverage it for our businesses.

Totally agree, Jeff. At the very least, having the brand page for search results is very powerful. If you do nothing else, it’s worth setting up that page for your business. Everyone’s use of Google Plus is going to be different, but because it’s tied to search, it can’t be ignored.

lauraclick I think they should have some changes that could be cool too…

I think the biggest mistake we can make is comparing and treating G+ the same way we treat Facebook. They are fundamentally different. G+ is a hybrid of search and social. There are so many ways that a brand can harness that.

jessicamalnik I’d argue that they are striving for the social end. Yes there are a lot of opportunities, but for right now it is a mix of search, youtube, skype and feedreader. Search being the biggest one for now. While I see the promise of the platform, overall I think Google acknowledges that they have some areas to work on with the platform but will be interesting to see how they eventually work social into the overall mix and usage of the platform which starts with getting people to use it…

I think you’re on to something, Jeff. This week I read that “G+ is becoming the backbone for all activities on Google.” (Of course, I can’t put my fingers on where I read that at the moment!).
I certainly too a look at my clients’ G+ presence after that and made some recommendations.
    Cheers!
