Social media is a lot like search marketing and is something that should be looked at with lens similar to both paid and organic social media. The paid side is the one that focuses on advertising ventures across the social platforms.

'A few weeks back, I took the stage at Internet Retailer ‘s annual conference for the ecommerce industry to discuss social media and how marketers can do it right, but also how they can do it very wrong. Much of the value of social media lies within the data that is readily shared by its users. The problem with the industry though is that many advertisers ignore the data and miss simple opportunities to market more effectively or to hold open conversations with their customers.

'Earlier today, I saw this video from DeirectTv called Football on Your Phone being shared a ton. Since my wife is a fan of the Manning brothers, I decided to wait and watch with her. Now I am not a fan of them, but their commercials are funny. This one reminds me of a Lonely Island skit and is so bad… it’s good. I guess the hidden formula for a viral video is to add a Manning and make a dumb song.

'A few months back I stumbled upon an interesting question and answer session with Tony Hsieh at Samsung’s Blogger Lounge at SXSW. During the 30-minute session, the Zappos CEO touched on a lot of topics, but the one that stood out the most was on what he wanted to do with the company’s new offices in the old Las Vegas city hall. While the new digs mean more space for the team at Zappos, Hsieh does not want his employees to get lost in this space.
