Facebook Copies Snapchat Again | Social You Should Know

Facebook copies Snapchat, Instagram is rolling out photo albums, and some interesting findings involving men and women on Instagram, as well as Facebook debuting autoplay for videos, all in this week’s edition of Social You Should Know.

Facebook Copies Snapchat (Again) Within WhatsApp

WhatsApp is turning 8 years old and now has more than 1.2 billion monthly active users, with more than 60 billion messages sent per day. The app is revamping their ‘status feature’ – which is almost exactly like Snapchat. Meanwhile, Instagram (also owned by Facebook) continues to damper growth for Snapchat, as our very own Bruna Camargo reports, Snapchat views have declined by 15-40%. But Snap isn’t lying low. This week, Snap threw shade at Facebook’s moves in a roadshow video, and reiterated that Snapchat has 158 million daily users, and average 18 log ins a day.

Instagram Rolls Out Gender Studies & Photo Albums

If your brand is on Instagram, take heed. Two reports surfaced this week about how men and women interact with Instagram – but with starkly opposite findings. Turns out, men are more likely to rate Instagram ads as effective. In the other report, women ranked Instagram as the channel most likely to influence their purchases. {Insert stereotypes here.} I don’t know about you, but I could get into some lively discussions about what these studies indicate. Nevertheless, both studies are useful and could affect your channel tactics.

A beta feature no longer, photo albums are now rolling out to all users worldwide over the next two weeks. Users can add up to 10 photos and videos in a single post. I think there is some exciting potential here for brands and influencers to share beautiful stories with this new feature.

Listen up! Facebook Starts to Autoplay Sound on Videos

Videos on Facebook will now play sound automatically. This is still an interesting move, considering just a few months ago, we shared with you some compelling data that showed most users prefer to watch videos without sound. If you are like most brands, you’re probably sharing a lot more video content on Facebook these days. This change will likely hinder or boost engagement on your videos; it’s bound to make an impact either way, so keep a close eye on your numbers.

Things are always a changing in the social media world. Stick with us to keep you up to date. Have a great weekend!
