Gobbledygook for the Empire Avenue robots: {EAV_BLOG_VER:cca0b081a4b11fd5}. Nearly a year after its beta launch and after receiving dozens of invitations, I finally gave in and joined Empire Avenue. That’s right, you can now track my sticker symbol and buy and sell shares of my stock to your heart’s content. As I write this sentence, I joined 3 hours ago and have 66 shareholders — who helped raise the price to 26 eaves (the name of the game’s currency).

Stare at this photograph. It’s an optical illusion that Todd photographed at the Boston Science Museum in 2008. It likely evokes the same cranial thoughts in you as anyone else. Prove me wrong. The next time you peruse through a magazine rack of a particular genre, take note of how many times the same story is written with a different subject and a different author.

The Misnomer of Social Networking

It is a fallacy to suggest social networking is about networking, opines Jeff Hurt. Identity comes first, relationship building second, and networking with the community third. Social networking sites are social identity sites. When people like a page on Facebook, answer something on Quora, recommend someone on LinkedIn or tweet something on Twitter, they do those things not because of community but because of their identity.

As the below video elaborates , when your email address (that receives the newsletters) is not recognized as a valid address, a failure occurs. Let this be a lesson to email marketing companies. If you provide a means for a recipient to unsubscribe, don’t make the process difficult and ensure the address is in your database for prompt removal.
